Small Antique Patchwork Stocking - 1810-20s French Printed Indigo

Small Antique Patchwork Stocking - 1810-20s French Printed Indigo

For the seventh consecutive year, my iconic Christmas stockings return, carrying a story that makes this edition profoundly close to my heart. This year’s edition was born from an extraordinary gift: a curated box of precious scraps and cut-offs from the finest luxury upholstery fabrics by Nathalie Farman Farma. To pair these masterfully woven and hand printed textiles with Katharine Pole’s antique printed cottons was, in every sense, a dream come true.

Each stocking is meticulously crafted from remnants of hand-quilted antique toile quilts, beautifully finished with Farman Farma’s fabrics and padded with 100% biodegradable wool wadding for a luxurious, structural weight. In a final nod to uncompromising craftsmanship, the edges are trimmed with a hand-cut binding made from the rarest, smallest fragments of Farma’s prints, paired with antique Dutch and French textile prints dating back to 1790–1810. These are not merely stockings, they are tangible pieces of textile history, designed to be cherished as family heirlooms for generations.

In the spirit of tending to the light during the long northern winters, each stocking is made to bring extra warmth into the home, to hold small surprises, love notes, tangerines and treasures. Here in Scandinavia, where the season officially draws us indoors by now, these pieces serve as gentle reminders of care and seasonal nostalgia. With no two alike, each stocking is a unique artwork made to keep the heart and home soft through winter.

This is how we work

The LSJ studio makes handmade-to-order garments using rarely found vintage and reprinted antique textiles. Our practice is the opposite of next day delivery: a time- consuming and creative process, made by a small team of four people. We use traditional craftsmanship techniques that involve composing, cutting and sewing everything by hand, imbuing each piece with a sense of soul and beautiful finish lacking from today’s fashion system.
