Heart Beat Piece 22

Intimate Relations series - White works - A tribute to Grapefruit by Yoko Ono, 1964

Honoured in a series of patchwork jackets since 2016, the workwear jacket is hand-stitched with patches covering the garment, underlining the craft and labour so closely connected to its original purpose, altering something precious and intimately familiar.

'The intimate relations, lasting longer than a season that we all develop with one or more items in our wardrobe, are not deemed of interest here. Our attachment to apparel is not to its liking. It has won the battle if not the war. It has instituted the reign of the disposable, and the short-term.'

An ABC of Hermes Crafts, R for Repairing, by Olivier Saillard 2012Early 19th century French workwear jacket in softest indigo cotton.

This is how we work

The LSJ studio makes handmade-to-order garments using rarely found vintage and reprinted antique textiles. Our practice is the opposite of next day delivery: a time- consuming and creative process, made by a small team of four people. We use traditional craftsmanship techniques that involve composing, cutting and sewing everything by hand, imbuing each piece with a sense of soul and beautiful finish lacking from today’s fashion system.
