This dress is one-size around the body but fits a size 36-40 in sleeve curve - what defines the sizes on these.
These editions began over six years ago, when I was living in Paris and rediscovered the smock dress - a silhouette that stirred such sweet memories from my own childhood. This is its adult version: gently one-size, yet subtly varied through the curve and depth of each sleeve, each dress carries its own quiet character with individual embroidery. I don't personally interfere with the design of them, as my experience is they become the most special when there is complete creative freedom in the process.
Each dress is handmade by artisans in Madagascar, and no two are ever alike. They arrive when they arrive, but never scheduled - due to this process. This newest edition felt especially moving to unwrap, as if it had been shaped slowly through the stillness of winter, stitch by stitch.

The LSJ studio makes handmade-to-order garments using rarely found vintage and reprinted antique textiles. Our practice is the opposite of next day delivery: a time- consuming and creative process, made by a small team of four people. We use traditional craftsmanship techniques that involve composing, cutting and sewing everything by hand, imbuing each piece with a sense of soul and beautiful finish lacking from today’s fashion system.
