Antique Black & White Periwinkle Patchwork

Antique Black & White Periwinkle Patchwork

This is a rare black and white patchwork quilt from my collection of Eli Leon quilts. A renowned american champion in preserving folk art as a quilt collector who passed away in 2018. Supported by The Guggenheim fellow-ship, among many other states, Leon travelled a lot in the southern states with his particular eye for traditional and anglo-american quilts throughout his life.

On the patchwork is a note by Eli Leon, from Oklahoma, likely early 1900c.

Entirely hand stitched with little delicate white sewing onto each of the black diamonds. As a collector, you're left wondering if the error in upper left corner is intentional.

This is how we work

The LSJ studio makes handmade-to-order garments using rarely found vintage and reprinted antique textiles. Our practice is the opposite of next day delivery: a time- consuming and creative process, made by a small team of four people. We use traditional craftsmanship techniques that involve composing, cutting and sewing everything by hand, imbuing each piece with a sense of soul and beautiful finish lacking from today’s fashion system.
