Rocky Road To California

Loveliest 'Rocky Road To California' quilt, Mason City, Iowa c. 1920s, collection of Eli Leon.
Beautifully hand quilted geometricals and stars on soft cotton pastels. The title of a quilt, representing the westward journey like ‘Road to California’, when gold was found in Sacramento 1849, triggering massive migrations, and the beginning of California becoming the 31st state. From Eli Leon’s collection of Anglo American and Traditional American quilts, found on what was indeed a beautiful and rocky road to California two years ago, traveling by the coast line train, from north to south of California.
Hand stitched (quilted) with lavender columns and white backing. Has a stain on it, so price is reduced, compared to other quilts from our archive, dated same period.
