Four Patch Doll Quilt
This Four Patch Doll Quilt was likely a practice piece for a young girl. The diagonal line quilting along the border, for instance, is clearly an effort at fine stitching yet the wobbliness and irregularity of the lines may indicate it was made by a novice. Similarly, the piecing of the printed triangles fabric on the right border was done by someone who had not fine tuned her skills. In spite of (or because of) the technical flaws, the quilt is it's own little master piece. It's made with a perfect selection of printed fabrics. There is an old repair to one of the four patch blocks. Fabric was sewn over the original. All other fabrics are in excellent condition. The quilt is professionally mounted on a stretcher measuring 12" x 15 1/2". Made cica 1860.
